Batteries – return and disposal
Batteries and rechargeable batteries must be collected separately. This information explains their return under EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 and the German Battery Law Implementation Act (BattDG).
Return used batteries – free of charge and separately
As an end user, you are required to return used batteries. They must not be placed in household waste, yellow recycling bins or the environment. Use battery collection points in shops or the designated municipal collection points.
You can return used portable batteries to M&M Smartek free of charge, provided we sell or have sold new batteries in that category. Returns are accepted regardless of brand, origin or chemical composition and do not require the purchase of a new battery.

What the markings mean
The crossed-out wheeled bin indicates that batteries must be collected separately. Additional chemical symbols identify heavy metals contained in them: Cd for cadmium, Pb for lead and, on older markings, Hg for mercury.
Handle lithium batteries safely
Tape over the terminals of used lithium batteries and rechargeable batteries before returning them to prevent short circuits. Hand damaged or swollen batteries to trained staff at a suitable collection point and tell them about the damage. Do not send damaged lithium batteries as an ordinary parcel.
Conserve resources
Use batteries and rechargeable batteries for as long as possible and follow the manufacturer’s charging, storage and safety instructions. Separate collection protects the environment and health and enables valuable raw materials to be recovered.
